Bridal Brows – The Golden Rules!
Get the perfect brows for your big day!
1. RECOMMENDED TREATMENT FOR BRIDES
Brow Rule No. 1: Put down those tweezers ladies and leave it to a professional! Threading is my hair removal method of choice for all facial areas. It is suitable for all skin types especially sensitive and there is no patch test required. Some therapists may use a mild astringent such as witch hazel to cleanse the area first so be sure to let them know beforehand if you have an allergy.
2. HOW SOON SHOULD I START?
Brow Rule No.2: Be patient! Getting your brows sorted is a process so my advice is to begin 9-12 months before your wedding. Resist the temptation to tweeze yourself as the chances are you’ll overdo it and ultimately be left with the incorrect shape and thickness. Tweezing a few strays can lead to having no brows at all – trust me I’ve been there! It’s also vital to be realistic, for example, if you have pencil thin brows at the moment but want full thick brows à la Ms. Delevingne, then it may not be possible! It’s also important to note that everyone’s growth rate and hair thickness is different so there is no magic formula to suit all. Often, a simple tint can make a huge difference and make non-existent brows look fuller, just be sure to get a patch test beforehand!
3. AT HOME PREPARATION
Brow Rule No. 3: healthy body means healthy skin and hair. A diet rich in fresh vegetables, pulses, oily fish and organic meats along with plenty of water will certainly help in keeping us healthy inside and out. Castor oil is a natural remedy that conditions the skin and can promote hair growth. A few drops massaged into the brow area every night can help in speeding up this process. Avoid applying facial products (i.e. moisturisers, serums, foundations and powder) directly on brows as these can clog follicles, inhibit hair growth and may also lead to hair loss.
4. NUMBER OF APPOINTMENTS NEEDED
This really depends on the individual and how quickly their hair grows. The general rule of thumb is 2 to 3 weeks between appointments. So if we begin 9 months prior to the wedding date this would mean up to 12 appointments.
5. WHEN SHOULD I HAVE MY FINAL APPOINTMENT?
Bearing in mind that any hair removal must be done at least 24hrs before spray-tan or sun-bed, the final appointment should be 2-3 days before the wedding.
